No Hot Water? Troubleshooting Tips

In this video, we guide you through troubleshooting steps for when you have no hot water, including what to check and when to call an electrician or plumber.

What to check when there's no hot water

What to do when you have no hot water?

If you find yourself without hot water, follow these steps to identify and possibly resolve your hot water issues before calling a professional.

Step 1: Check for Leaks

  • Inspect your hot water system for visible signs of leakage.
  • If you find any leaks, contact a licensed plumber immediately, as this could indicate a serious issue.

Step 2: Ensure the Tank is Full

  • If there are no leaks, check if the tank has enough water.
  • Locate the filler valve on the side of your hot water system.
  • Lift the lever until water starts to overflow from the designated overflow pipe. CAUTION: The water may be hot, so be careful.
  • Wait a few hours for the water to heat up after refilling.

Step 3: Check the Power Supply

  • If water overflows immediately after operating the filler valve, your system may not be heating properly.
  • Check that the power supply is switched on.
  • Inspect your switchboard to ensure the circuit breaker for the hot water system is in the ON position.

Step 4: Contact a Technician

  • If you've checked the water level and power supply but still have no hot water, contact a professional technician for assistance. You can reach out to Jentech Electrical at 07 3914 9696 to schedule a service.

Additional Tip:

  • If the switches are ON, but your water is only lukewarm or fluctuates between hot and cold, it is likely a valve issue rather than an electrical problem. In this case, you may need a licensed plumber to inspect and replace faulty valves.
