What We Do

Hot water repairs & installation

No Hot Water — Diagnostics

Lost hot water? On an electric tank the common culprits are a tripped switchboard circuit, a failed heating element, a faulty thermostat, or an off-peak supply timing issue. We work through each of those on site and tell you whether it's a repair or a replacement before any work starts.

Element & Thermostat Replacement

The two parts that fail most often on an electric storage tank. We replace failed elements and thermostats on the common Australian brands — Rheem, Dux, Vulcan, Aquamax, Rinnai — and check the sacrificial anode while the tank is drained.

System Replacement & Installation

When the tank itself has failed, we supply and install electric storage hot water systems from the major Australian brands. Includes new isolator, tariff cabling, and a Certificate of Electrical Safety on completion.

Tariff 31 / 33 / 11 Changeovers

If your tank is running out of hot water by evening, you may be on the wrong tariff or the wrong-sized unit. We re-wire at the switchboard to move you between Tariff 31 (overnight off-peak), Tariff 33 (controlled supply), or Tariff 11 (continuous) as part of the install.

System Types

Which hot water system suits your home?

We're electricians, so electric, heat pump and solar-electric are our core scope. For gas systems we handle the electrical side and partner with a licensed plumber on the gas and water connections.

Electric Storage

The classic Brisbane setup — insulated tank, immersed element, mains powered. Reliable and serviceable. Our core scope as electricians.

Best forMost Brisbane homes

Heat Pump

Uses a fraction of the electricity of a resistive tank and may qualify for federal STC rebates. Higher upfront cost, lower running cost.

Best forHouseholds with daytime solar generation

Solar-Electric Boost

Roof-mounted collectors with an electric booster element. Good fit for Queensland's climate, but installation is more involved.

Best forNorth-facing roofs, long-term owners

Gas Storage / Continuous

We handle the electrical side — isolators, ignition wiring, controllers. Gas supply and water connections are work for a licensed plumber / gas fitter.

Best forExisting gas-plumbed homes

Who We Help

Hot water work across every property type

From a single tank failure in a family home to portfolio-wide property-manager work — same crew, same approach.

Owner-Occupied Homes

Family lost hot water? On an electric tank most failures are an element, thermostat or tripped circuit — work we can diagnose and repair on the day in many cases.

Rental Properties

Landlords have a 'reasonable timeframe' obligation under the Residential Tenancies Act when hot water fails. We work with property managers to get tenants back to hot water quickly.

Insurance Claims

Tank leaked, flooded the laundry, ruined the floor? We provide the diagnostic report, scope of works and Certificate of Electrical Safety your insurer needs.

Property Sales & Pre-Settlement

Failed building inspection because of an old or non-compliant hot water unit? We can quote, replace and certify so the property is compliant before settlement.

Body Corporate / Unit Blocks

Storage tanks in unit blocks are often on a tariff-controlled supply through a master meter. We coordinate with body corporate and strata electricians where the meter box is on common property.

Renovations & New Builds

Replacing the tank during a renovation is the time to also re-look at the tariff, switchboard isolator, and anode. We scope hot water into the wider electrical package.

How It Works

From the first phone call to certified

01

Give us a call

Call 07 3914 9696 with the symptom — no hot water, lukewarm only, tank leaking. We'll talk through a couple of quick switchboard checks and book a visit.

02

On-site diagnosis

We work through the switchboard, the tank's circuit, the element, thermostat, anode and tariff supply, and identify what's failed.

03

Quote — repair or replace

Once we know what's failed, we quote both options where it makes sense (repair vs replace, electric vs heat-pump) so you can decide on the spot.

04

Repair or install

Element and thermostat repairs are typically finished in a single visit. Tank replacements are scheduled to the next available slot once you give us the go-ahead.

05

Certificate of Electrical Safety

Every job comes with a QLD Electrical Safety Certificate of Compliance. Keep it with your house papers — your insurer and any future buyer will ask for it.

Compliance & Warranty

Hot water — the rules

Hot water work in Queensland is regulated electrical work. Always use a licensed contractor:

  • AS/NZS 3000:2018 (Wiring Rules) — every connection, isolator and tariff cable must comply.
  • QLD Electrical Safety Act 2002 — work on the fixed wiring side of a hot water unit can only be carried out by a licensed electrician.
  • Certificate of Electrical Safety — issued for every repair, replacement and tariff changeover. Required by insurers.
  • Manufacturer warranty — most major-brand warranties require installation by a licensed installer to remain valid.

What Affects Your Quote

How we scope hot water work

Every job is quoted on-site after diagnosis. The variables that shape the scope:

Repair vs replace

Whether the issue is an element, thermostat or wiring fault — or whether the tank itself has failed.

Tank size & brand

Capacity sized to the household, and brand chosen for warranty and recovery rate.

System type

Electric storage, heat pump or solar-electric — each suits a different household and budget.

Tariff changeover

Switching between Tariff 31 / 33 / 11 needs switchboard rewiring and supply paperwork.

Access

Ground-floor external tanks are quickest. Roof-cavity tanks and tight strata cupboards take longer.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a plumber or an electrician for hot water repairs?
For an electric hot water system, the electrician handles the unit itself — failed element, faulty thermostat, tripped circuit, off-peak supply, replacement and wiring. The plumber handles water supply, leaks, the tempering valve, and pressure relief. For gas systems the gas fitter handles the burner and gas supply. Many no-hot-water calls on an electric tank turn out to be an electrical fault, which is our scope.
Why is there no hot water in my house?
On electric storage tanks the four most common causes are: a tripped circuit breaker or safety switch at the switchboard, a failed heating element, a faulty thermostat, or — on off-peak systems — a tariff timing issue. If you'd like to check the basics before we arrive, see our troubleshooting guide.
How much does it cost to repair a hot water system?
It depends on whether it's a repair (element, thermostat, wiring) or a full system replacement, and on the brand and size of the unit. We diagnose on site and quote both options where it makes sense before any work starts — give us a call on 07 3914 9696 to book a visit.
Can you replace my hot water system?
Yes — we supply and install electric storage and heat-pump hot water systems. The unit, brand and size are recommended based on the household's hot-water demand and the available tariff supply. Like-for-like changeovers are quicker to schedule than a change of system type.
What hot water system brands do you install?
We install the major Australian brands — Rheem, Dux, Vulcan, Aquamax and Rinnai are common on electric storage; iStore, Sanden and Reclaim are common on heat-pump. Brand choice comes down to tank size, warranty, recovery time, and whether you're staying on Tariff 31 (off-peak) or moving to continuous supply.
What's Tariff 31 / off-peak and should I switch?
Tariff 31 (off-peak) heats the tank overnight only, on a cheaper electricity rate. Tariff 33 is a controlled supply tariff. Tariff 11 is continuous (general supply). Off-peak is the cheapest per kWh but only works if your tank is sized to last the day — if you're running out of hot water by evening, you may need a larger tank or a different tariff. The switch involves rewiring at the switchboard.
Can you fit a heat pump hot water system?
Yes. Heat pumps use a fraction of the electricity of a resistive electric tank and may qualify for federal STC rebates where eligible. They're generally best suited to households with daytime solar generation. We'll talk through whether a heat pump is the right fit before quoting.
Do you provide a Certificate of Electrical Safety with hot water work?
Yes. Every hot water repair, replacement and tariff changeover comes with a QLD Electrical Safety Certificate of Compliance. Keep it with your house papers — your insurer and any future buyer will ask for it.
